Single-Component Urethane Intermediate Coating (DK-530)

DK-530 is a single-component urethane intermediate coating that excels in flexibility, adhesion, elasticity, and impact resistance. It requires no mixing, making it easy to use, and can be applied in a single coat with a thickness of 1 to 1.5 mm. It provides excellent waterproofing, making it suitable for upper structures.

Single-Component Urethane Intermediate Coating Application

1. Working Environment

 

  1. Avoid Application During Rain: Do not apply if it is raining or rain is expected.
  2. Surface Moisture: Ensure the substrate is dry with a moisture content of 8% or less before application.
  3. Temperature Conditions: Do not apply if the temperature is below 5°C (41°F) as it can affect the application.
  4. Extreme Weather: Be cautious of high winds, high temperatures (above 30°C / 86°F), and high humidity (above 85%) during application and curing.
  5. Ventilation and Lighting: Ensure adequate ventilation and lighting are in place before starting work.
  6. Wall Application: Use appropriate scaffolding for wall applications and take care not to damage the waterproof layer when removing the scaffolding.
  7. Protect Surroundings: Take necessary precautions to prevent contamination of surrounding areas with materials.
  8. Equipment Maintenance: Keep all application equipment and devices organized and well-maintained near the work site.

 

2. Preventing Damage

When working on or finishing the waterproof layer, avoid actions that might damage it:

  1. Avoid Sparks: Do not use equipment that generates sparks, such as welders or grinders, on the waterproof layer.
  2. Installations: Be careful when installing pipes, fixtures, and other equipment to avoid damaging the layer.
  3. Handling Materials: Avoid damage during the transport, installation, or removal of temporary materials and equipment.

 

3. Application Method

 (1) Surface Preparation

  1. Dry the Surface: Ensure the substrate is thoroughly dry (moisture content below 8%).
  2. Remove Debris: Remove any irregularities, aging, rust, grease, dust, sand, and paint from the surface as these can affect adhesion.
  3. Protect Drains: Cover drains to prevent clogging.
  4. Mixing: Shake the single-component product before use.

 (2) Primer Application (DK-520)

  1. Apply Primer: After surface preparation, apply the primer (DK-520) using a roller, brush, or spray.
  2. Uniform Application: Apply evenly to avoid bubbles (coverage: 0.2–0.3 kg/m²).
  3. Drying: Allow to fully dry and cure to prevent peeling. (Drying time: 2–4 hours in summer, 5–6 hours in winter)
  4. Dilution: If needed, use a thinner within 10% dilution.
  5. Additional Coats: If the surface absorbs heavily, apply an additional coat of primer.

 (3) Repair and Reinforcement Work (Polyurethane Sealant: DK-510)

  1. DK-510 polyurethane sealant consists of two components, which must be mixed in the correct ratio ( base : hardener = 1:5) to ensure accurate mixing.
  2. If there are cracks in the floor, fill the affected areas with a sealing compound after priming. Additionally, any cracks or imperfections in the concrete should be cut in a V-shape and filled with the sealant. Apply the mixed sealant evenly to the cracks and joints, and smooth the surface to ensure uniform sealing.
  3. Allow sufficient time for the applied sealant to fully cure.

 (4) Intermediate Coating (DK-530) or (DK-540)

  1. Apply Within Pot Life: Apply the coating to vertical surfaces first, then horizontal, considering the work route. Use trowels (for vertical walls) and rollers or brushes (for horizontal floors).
  2. Reinforcement: Apply reinforcing fabric immediately after coating vertical surfaces.
  3. Second Coat: After at least 24 hours (at 20°C / 68°F), check the first coat’s cure and apply the second coat in the same manner. Complete the second coat within 4 days of the first application to prevent adhesion issues.
  4. Thinning: Add 5-10% thinner if needed for proper mixing and workability. Avoid excessive thinning as it can lead to curing problems, strength issues, color separation, or cracking.

      * Thinner Use: Always use a polyurethane thinner suitable for waterproofing. Do not use general-purpose thinners like epoxy or lacquer thinners, as they can cause incomplete curing.

 (5) Topcoat Application (DK-540)

  1. The topcoat application is the process of applying a coating on the waterproof layer after the intermediate coating to protect it from environmental exposure and friction. This improves the durability of the waterproof layer and helps prevent damage or wear caused by external conditions.
  2.  After the intermediate coating has fully cured, apply the urethane topcoat using a roller or spray to complete the finish.
